TV Cop Shows Regularly have Women Police Officers Run as Fast or Faster then Men

TV police shows consistently show female police officers running as fast or faster than male officers. But in the real world that is not close to being the case. For example, for the U.S. Marshals Service, the minimum standard for running 1.5 miles for 20 to 29 years old men is 12 minutes and 18 seconds and for women that age it was 14 minutes and 55 seconds — 21 percent longer. The differences in upper body strength is also significant. While 20 to 29 year old men have to be able to do at least 33 push ups within one minute, women are only required to do 16. Men can do slightly more than twice as many.

The above video shows to examples from CBS’s police shows. The first example is from “FBI Most Wanted” where a female agent, who is somewhat on the plumb side, easily out runs a relatively fit male criminal (Season 6, Episode 12, February 18, 2025). She does it despite having to push her way through people who are in her way. Another episode on CBS’s FBI a female FBI agent runs at least as fast as a male agent (Season 7, Episode 11, February 11, 2025).
